Fly Rods

Fly fishing rods are much different than your standard fishing rod. A fly rod is the most critical element you need to have a successful fly fishing adventure. A good fly fishing rod is long and light in weight. The rod actually gets a good cast by using heavier line. Many times, the line used is quite colorful and can affect your success ratio.

Different types of fly fishing require a different type of rod. For example, saltwater fly fishing is normally done with a shorter rod which helps the person fishing to combat the wind which is always present when fishing in coastal areas.

If you’re an experience fly person, then you already know the type of rod you need and probably have one brand that you prefer over another.

The most common materials that make up a fly rod are fiberglass, bamboo and graphite. If you’re just starting out, a good rod to start with would the fiberglass rods because they generally less expensive and are very durable. As you advance in learning, you might move up to the bamboo rods which are very expensive and not really recommended for a beginner.

The most common fly rods are Sage, Crystal River and Temple Fork. There are many other brands to choose from, but those are the 3 most popular and usually have the largest selection to choose from.

We’ve designed this site around telling you a little bit about the fly rod and also allowing you to purchase fly rods from the many different vendors all from one convenient location.
